My personal development journey started back in the late 1970s.  The first books that I remember reading on this subject were I’m OK, You’re OK, by Thomas A Harris MD , which was a best seller for over 2 years and sold more that 15 million copies and As a Man Thinketh a literary essay by James Allen, published in 1902.  Both of these books opened up a new way of thinking for me. Many years went by as I continued to search for good material to further my inter personal development.  There was a turning point in 2005 when I was introduced to Matthew Ferry.  Matthew had been a trainer for his dad’s real estate business in CA.  After training over 1800 agents he discovered something that changed his way of training forever:

I always loved a challenge, so when my business partner Dotti Berry told me about this what could I say? 

So, here we go we are blazing a new trail, one video at a time.  The challenge is to produce a video everyday for 7 weeks.  This is not for the faint of heart, you have to be like the people in the movie Brave Heart!!  This will give you Freedom from your excuses, your reasons for not getting things done.  The road to hell is paved with good intentions, that will not work.

One way to stick to this is to understand that it is not about trying … that word needs to be taken out of your vocabulary.  You are either going to do it or you are not.  If you are seated in a chair, have you ever tried to get up?  Well, that’s right you either get up or you stay seated.  Trying doesn’t do you any good!  I know that we have been told over and over in our lives that we just need to keep trying.  That seems so useless now.  If you think about in light of that, if you just keep trying to do something and nothing changes that is the definition of insanity.

Let’s look at a better way to state it being aware that words have so much power we really need to watch what we say!  If I were wanting to urge someone to not give up, I believe a better way is to ask them questions and help them see for themselves that giving up is not an option.

That is where I stand with this, giving up is not an option!

So, you think you can make it in this business, but you been doing it for awhile, and have had little success.  Maybe you have been working on your blog or you have been on Facebook and made a few friends.  Well, it is going to take more than that.  It will take a proven technique and a lot of focus.

The only way to make it in this business it to get started on something that is working and then stick with it long enough to see if it works for you.  “Well, what if it doesn’t work and I fail?”  It is not failure it is only feedback.

As Michael J. Gelb says, “Champions know that success is inevitable; that there is no such thing as failure, only feedback. They know that the best way to forecast the future is to create it.”

It does not matter what has happened to you in the past, be it physical or mental, you can  rise above it and move forward.  There is no one holding you back, except for maybe yourself.

We are only here on this planet for a limited amount of time.  Decide what your journey is going to look like.  Maybe it would be beneficial to you to see your life stated in a metaphor:

• Life is a test
• Life is a journey
• Life is an endurance race, a marathon
• Life is a search party (a search for the truth)
• Life is a temporary assignment

The bottom line is if you want to make it in your business there needs to be a vision, a plan of what your life is going to look like 5 years from now!  Draw a line in the sand and start there, and I mean START…  Now take massive action!

There are four structural pillars to creating success in an MLM business.  Under each of these pillars are a variety of different methods to obtaining success.  These methods form the matrix of the actions that are necessary.  Each action is important and needs to be done consistently over a period of time.  These pillars are, lead generation, lead conversion, training, and retention.

The first pillar is… lead generation.  There are two main categories of lead generation, there is face to face, or off line lead generation, and online lead generation.

Face to face marketing starts with your warm market, this is your friends, family, co-workers.  For many people this just comes naturally and they are very successful.  Every day you should have a set number of contacts that you need to make in order to keep your pipeline of prospects full.  The need for outside networking is huge.

The second category of lead generation is online marketing which has some similarities to off line marketing.  The main difference however, is in the way that you find people to talk to.  You have to develop an online personality and brand yourself. This is a very important step and something that very few online marketers do.  This can help set you apart from the rest of the pack.  In order to do this branding you need a website, such as a blog, it would be great if you could use your name as the website name.  You want to attract people to you, to your site, this is the key to lead generation and online success in an MLM business.

OK, so now you have leads, now what?  What good are leads if you cannot convert them into paying customers or new signups for your business?  Once you are talking to them, whether you can convert them or not will depend on how you move forward.  (Be aware of the different buying personalities).  This is going to be the same whether you are using online or offline lead generation.  Your sales training and/or skills are going to play a key role.  The key is to engage people.  Once you are engaged it is time to get excited and move toward some type of close!!

There are many different closing techniques that you should know.  You can learn these from teachers like Brian Tracy, Mark Victor Hansen, Roger Dawson, Sandlier Sales Institute, as well as others.  Not every sales situation is going to warrant the same closing technique, so you need to have several in your mind and be able to move into the one that will work best.  Do not fail to learn this, find a good source such as the trainers at www.nightingale.com, some of which I have listed above.

The last two pillars, training and retention, can be talked about together, because without one you cannot have the other.  The funny thing about the MLM industry is that although it is about sales, very few people that are involved have had any sales training.  So, how do you train someone to do something in a short amount of time that can take years to develop?

There are different schools of thought here.  Many MLM sales teams preach that you have to have a duplicatable system.  Many have been taught to have a system that everyone in their organization uses.   Well, not everyone learns the same and not everyone is good at the same thing.  The solution to the problem is to have several techniques and good training on them, then you can personalize the sales method based on each person’s set of skills.  But, you have to have a system in place to do this training.  If your company does not have one then you can look online for one of the MLM lead generation training suites.

When it comes to retention, suffice it to say that if you do not have good sales training you will not have retention.  The reason why you would have retention is because people are successful.  Without personal success in whatever MLM you are in, your recruits will not hang around long.

In summary when you are building your team there is a lot of things to consider.   The first is how are you going to get your leads?  When you have a lead, it is important to make sure that they are qualified.  The next thing is converting that lead to an associate and following through with the training.  This training structure should allow for them to choose what bests suits their style.  And finally, retention is achieved by having the other three pillars firmly in place.  That is how you will achieve success in an MLM business.

Hello, I wanted to talk about my journey in the MLM industry and where I am today.

I started in this industry in… 2005.  I believed in this industry as a way to a better life, a better life that was not going to be realized by working an 8-5 job.  I also realized that I was just trading my time for money and saw that there was a better way.

When I started, I was trained to market using sales techniques that are traditional for this industry.  I talked to my warm market, invited them to meetings and prayed they would show up.  I talked to my friends and family about what a great opportunity this was, and how it was going to change their lives.

I was lucky enough to work with some really great companies along the way.  One was a wellness company that has a product that has really help a lot of people with health problems.  I could not image why everyone would not want to take this product.  I could tell them stories of how it was bringing people back from the brink of death, but they still did not see the value.  I could not understand why, but there I was struggling along trying to get people to join me in my mission, but they would not follow.

Another great company that I am doing business with showed me how to pay my mortgage off in 1/2 the time.  Boy, if I could just show people how to pay off their debt, there would be no reason for them to not join me in this business.  This business was revolutionary, because they utilized advanced software to help my customers get out of debt and save thousands of dollars in interest.  But again, they could not see the light.

So, there I was with 2 great companies.  But I was still not making as much headway in my marketing efforts as I had planned on.  This just was not making sense to me.

I decided to try online marketing to promote my businesses, that is were I was exposed to MLM Lead System Pro.  If you have not heard of this or you have not heard of Mike Dillard then let me explain some very important marketing tips that I have learned.  I had been a student of Mike Dillard for sometime learning about attraction marketing, however, I was still working in the traditional manner not realizing what I was missing online.  I had not connected the dots that would help me do what I am doing today.

The marketing tips that I learned focused on attraction marketing.  But the biggest realization was that I was not talking to the right people.  The people that I needed to be talking to were the people that were already in direct sales.  These people did not need to be convinced of the value of this industry, they were already in it.  They were actively seeking a better way to support themselves, so all I had to do was to provide them with what they needed to succeed.  Wow, that was a BIG aha moment.

Well, that is where I am today, showing people how to succeed in this business where they once only found failure.  It has been quite a journey but as most stories go, it is all well worth the travel.
