  • What is peace?

Posted on March 22nd, 2010 Kathy Sammons View Comments

What is Peace?  In this personal development post, the question is: Do we find peace, do we make peace or do we choose peace.  Well, in Matthew Ferry’s words:

“Most people are concerned with two aspects of peace. Peace in the world and inner peace. Choosing peace in every aspect of life will simultaneously assist the world in achieving peace. In the end they are one in the same. When you choose peace, you declare yourself an agent of change. Choosing peace means letting go of pre-programmed negative reactions to the world like anger, resentment, righteousness, domination and retaliation. This commitment leads to the second type of peace.

Inner peace is a quality of knowing that all is well in the world… Inner peace comes naturally when you realize that you are going to die no matter what you think or do. When you let go of your attachment to staying alive and stop trying to manipulate the world, real living begins. Ultimately, inner peace is your natural state and is achieved when the mind is no longer concerned with thoughts of survival.”    Matthew Ferry

Matthew Ferry, one of my favorite coaches, said it better than I ever could have.  I hope that you take the time to let that sink in, it is very powerful.  It is so true that we are what we think about most of the time, and if that is peace you are very likely to find it.

A lot of people think that manifestation, The Secret, attraction marketing, and other notions are all new age thinking, but it has been around since the beginning of time.

The Book of Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7 says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is.”  It is a universal law, you can see it all through the ages from, The Bible, Shakespeare, Emerson, Einstein, all the way up to Walt Disney  (When you wish upon a star your dreams come true…).

They have been telling us along…  Ask, Seek and Choose.  If you do not feel peace, choose to.  That may sound just too simple.  However, if you knew how powerful your mind was if you put it in the right state, you would see the possibilities.  Take it one step further though and see that the essence in which we are, the very essence that God placed there, is not your mind, not your gray matter.  Step out of your mind and into your essence, looking from the outside of your brain in, then, you can see how you can choose peace.

Remember manifestation, peace, fulfillment all come from within.  We can all be successful if we ask and just keep moving forward.  Press ON!!!

    Peace be with you…

    Kathy

    • Great post, Kathy. You always provide nuggets that provide a great reminder. No outside source, no situation, no person can distract us or take us away from the peace within...unless we allow it to happen. I receive Robert Taylor's Wake up Calls. A recent one "Choosing Your Grounding" was particularly helpful...he started with "Our daily choices about what grounds us affects each moment of what it means to be fully alive." He continued, "Manuela was a guest in my home during which time the common refrain of friends was, “Manuela is filled with gratitude. It’s extraordinary.” One man asked, “Where does your gratitude come from?” She said, “I make choices each day to live gratefully.” “But what do you do about controlling or unpleasant people?” he asked. “That's their energy, their needs at work; it’s a life-draining energy that I offer to the Universe.” Ahhh...this all seems to fit together!
    • Peace comes from GOD who resides in each one of us if we choose to feel and accept. Sometimes we call GOD - spirit, the One Source, Universe, no matter what, if we consistently connect with Peace, we are in a place to manifest our destiny! I am blessed to know you, Kathy.
    • That is as great a definition as any I have heard Clare. Thanks for sharing it with us.
      Peace...

    • Kathy,

I think in order to become one with peace there has to be some degree of surrender.

I've been reading "The Purpose Driven Life" and a lot of what you said really resonated with me. Peace really comes from within. It's about being "internal" and not necessarily about any external factors like most people think it is.

If there is turmoil within, there will be turmoil without...

      Very refreshing!

    • I am glad that this post resonated with you. I have also read The Purpose Driven Life. You should check out Eckhart Tolle's book A New Earth. That book will take you one step farther down the road of understanding and lead you to true place of peace.
Let me know when you read it so we can discuss it.
      Peace...

      Hey Kathy,
Excellent post. I agree that WE are responsible for what we do and how we feel.

As a continuation of your peace process, may I suggest Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Keep posting thought provoking items like this and I will keep coming back.

      To Your Continued Success,
      Bill
    • Beautiful and Insightful Kathy! Thank you!

Did you hear that story where in Washington D.C. they had a crime rate of 25% or so and then an organization of world leaders (spiritual, religious, etc) congregated in Washington D.C. to focus on the crime rate and essentially see if with hundreds of leaders in one place they could effect the crime rate with their Intentions and Mind. It worked!

The crime rate decreased significantly following the leaders session meditating on the crime rate with love and good energy. We are more connected than we'll ever know.

      Zack
    • oops, and the thought comes up...
    • Zack, I am aware of and love that notion that we are all connected. Whenever I am meditating or praying the the thought comes up that I am not able to make a difference, I think of this study and keep trying!

Thanks so much for coming by,

      Kathy
    • Kathy;

Finding your "inner peace" makes you realize that we all come to this world for a purpose, and whatever that purpose might be you got to keep fighting until the end....

      Thanks for that peace advice!

      Katherine
    • I appreciate you response. You are right we cannot give up, it is not simple!!!

    • I feel better already Kathy,

Great post and so true. I do think that there are also situations(like the state of turmoil our country is in) that make it difficult for us be at full peace with everything. I will do my best to follow what you have taught us today.

      thanks,
      ~Bert

    • Kathy,
Thanks for sharing something most people tend to overlook. It took me a long time to find inner peace, but glad to have it every single day...Great post..
    • Carlos it is great to hear that you found that inner peace.

Thanks for coming over and sharing.
      Peace...

    • After reading the first line, all I could think was "I hope this post is about how it's a choice"... Glad to see I wasn't disappointed!

      Uplifting post Kathy!

      Garrett
    • Thanks Garrett, always good to see you.
      Peace...

    • Kathy,

This line sums it up for me. "Inner peace comes naturally when you realize that you are going to die no matter what you think or do." When we lift up our burdens, understanding that we can not do it alone, I get peace.

      John
    • That is my favorite line also. Our minds try so hard to protect us by seeing things in a fearful way, when there is nothing to fear, and there by creating problems in our lives. Being aware that our minds do that, is half of the cure!!!
      Peace...

    • Kathy,

      That post rocked! :)

I love that verse you posted from Proverbs 23:7. It is one that constantly runs through my mind.

That inner peace is what leads to being an excellent attraction marketer.

      God bless You,

      Linus
    • Thanks Linus,
I appreciate you coming by. I am always looking for that inner peace, for that Spiritual essence. It is not always so easy to find, but that is my goal.
      Peace...
